DAR Design Ltd recently undertook a private commission to design, create and install a large set of entrance gates for Dr and Mrs Evans at their home in Mary Twill Lane, Langland, Swansea.

“We first heard of Andrews work through his brother Ian while he was working at our house.  We mentioned to Ian that we wanted to put in place some large entrance gates to our driveway, but that we wanted them to look a little bit different.  Ian explained that Andrew was a specialised metalwork artist who undertook private commissions as well as his public art work.  This sounded exactly what we wanted and we arranged to meet Andrew to discuss our project” said Dr and Mrs Evans.

“When we met Andrew it was clear that he was very comfortable with taking our sketchy ideas and thoughts and translating them into a number of design themes which would form the basis for the gate design.  We outlined what we wanted the gates to say and how we wanted people to feel when they saw our gates.  Andrew took away these ideas and very quickly came back with four different designs for us to review and discuss.

All the designs were very exciting and interesting and met our brief, but one stood out as capturing our thoughts exactly, and we agreed to proceed with this design.  Andrew kept us fully in the picture during the fabrication process with a series of photographs, and this allowed us to share in the experience of the design coming to life as the process continued.

When finished, the gates were installed and had the immediate impact that we wanted and still remain a talking point for people who see them for the first time.

We are absolutely delighted with our gates and Andrew made the whole experience enjoyable and exciting and we have felt really involved and part of the whole process from concept design through fabrication and installation.”
